How Do I Become a Member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, PCA?

In order to make a well informed decision about becoming a member of our congregation, we ask that you attend the pastor's Sunday School class entitled The Inquirer's Class.  This class is offered each quarter during the Sunday School hour (9:30 am).  Its purpose is to present the distinctives of our church and denomination (the Presbyterian Church in America) by answering the following questions:

  • What is Covenant Presbyterian Church, PCA?
  • What is a Reformed Church?
  • What is a true Calvinist?
  • What is election?
  • What is predestination?
  • What is infant baptism?
  • What is the Lord's Supper?
  • What is membership?

At the end of this class, those who wish to become members are given an opportunity to meet with some of the elders and asked to make the following declarations and promises:

  • Do you acknowledge yourselves to be sinners in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope save in His sovereign mercy?
  • Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and rest upon Him alone for salvation as He is offered in the Gospel?
  • Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as becomes the followers of Christ?
  • Do you promise to support the Church in its worship and work to the best of your ability?
  • Do you submit yourselves to the government and discipline of the Church, and promise to study its purity and peace?
